Gabriel Bortoleto: F1 Driver Profile (Audi – 2026 Season)

Gabriel Lourenzo Bortoleto Oliveira is a Brazilian racing driver competing in Formula 1 for the Audi works team in the 2026 season. Born on 14 October 2004 in Osasco, São Paulo, he is one of Brazil’s most prominent young motorsport talents and a former FIA Formula 2 and Formula 3 champion.

Early Career

Bortoleto began karting at the age of seven, quickly establishing himself as one of Brazil’s most promising young drivers. He progressed through European junior formulas, competing in Italian Formula 4 and Formula Regional European before moving up the single-seater ladder.

His breakthrough came in 2023 when he won the FIA Formula 3 Championship, followed by a dominant FIA Formula 2 title in 2024. Winning both championships in consecutive seasons marked him as one of the most highly rated junior drivers of his generation.

Path to Formula 1

Following his success in junior categories, Bortoleto joined the McLaren Driver Development Programme before being signed by Sauber (later Audi works team) for a full-time Formula 1 seat.

He made his Formula 1 debut in the 2025 season and remained with the team into the Audi transition for 2026, partnering experienced German driver Nico Hülkenberg.

Formula 1 Career

Bortoleto competes in car number 5. In his early Formula 1 career, he has established himself as a consistent midfield driver, scoring points in multiple races during his rookie and second seasons.

As of the 2026 season, he has yet to achieve a podium finish or race victory, but has demonstrated strong qualifying performances and race craft in challenging midfield battles.

Driving Style

Bortoleto is known for his smooth driving style, strong tyre management, and ability to extract performance in qualifying. His junior career highlighted his race intelligence and consistency, particularly during his title-winning F2 campaign where he demonstrated strong recovery drives and strategic awareness.

Career Highlights

  • FIA Formula 3 Champion (2023)
  • FIA Formula 2 Champion (2024)
  • Formula 1 debut with Sauber (2025 season)
  • Full-time Audi F1 driver (2026–present)
  • Multiple points finishes in Formula 1 midfield competition

Personal Background

Born in Brazil, Bortoleto comes from a motorsport-involved family and has often cited Ayrton Senna as his racing idol. He is managed by A14 Management, a firm associated with Fernando Alonso, who has played a role in guiding his early career progression.

Summary

Gabriel Bortoleto is widely regarded as one of Brazil’s most promising modern Formula 1 drivers. With two junior world championships and a growing presence in Formula 1 with Audi, he is seen as a long-term project driver with strong development potential in the sport’s midfield and future regulation eras.
