Fernando Alonso – F1 Driver Profile
Fernando Alonso is a Spanish Formula 1 driver competing for Aston Martin in the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship. A two-time World Champion, Alonso is widely regarded as one of the most complete and experienced drivers in the history of the sport, known for his racecraft, adaptability, and longevity at the highest level of motorsport.
Born on 29 July 1981 in Oviedo, Asturias, Spain, Alonso began karting at a young age and quickly rose through the junior racing ranks. After success in lower formulas such as Formula Nissan and Formula 3000, he made his Formula 1 debut with Minardi at the 2001 Australian Grand Prix.
Alonso’s breakthrough came with Renault, where he became a front-running driver and secured back-to-back Formula 1 World Championships in 2005 and 2006. These titles made him the youngest double World Champion in Formula 1 history at the time and ended Michael Schumacher’s dominant era.
Throughout his career, Alonso has raced for Minardi, Renault, McLaren, Ferrari, Alpine, and Aston Martin. During his time at Ferrari (2010–2014), he finished runner-up in the Drivers’ Championship three times, consistently fighting for the title.
After leaving Formula 1 at the end of 2018, Alonso competed in endurance racing, achieving major success including two victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and a World Endurance Championship title. He returned to Formula 1 in 2021 with Alpine and proved he remained highly competitive.
In 2023, Alonso joined Aston Martin, where he delivered immediate podium finishes and helped establish the team as a strong midfield-to-front contender. His experience and technical feedback continue to play a major role in car development.
Career highlights include:
- 2× Formula 1 World Champion (2005, 2006)
- 32 Grand Prix victories
