Douriann Wins Prix du Château de Saint-Cloud Handicap at Saint-Cloud
Douriann Scores in Prix du Château de Saint-Cloud Handicap
Douriann returned to winning form with a determined success in the Prix du Château de Saint-Cloud Handicap at Saint-Cloud on Tuesday.
The 1m2f contest for horses aged four and older was run on ground officially described as good to soft and attracted a field of 15 runners after the withdrawal of Happy Saxon.
Partnered by Aurelien Lemaitre for trainer G Pannier, Douriann was sent off at 10/1 and produced a strong late challenge to secure victory by a length and a quarter. The winner finished ahead of the well-backed favourite Another Light, who kept on well for second but was unable to match the winner’s finishing effort.
There was a surprise in third as 33/1 outsider Plotinus ran an excellent race to finish a further three-quarters of a length behind the runner-up, with only a head covering the next horse home.
The race was run in a time of 2m 10.47s, with Douriann proving best suited to the conditions to claim the £22,130 prize.
