Famous Jockeys Series of 48 No. 22 G. Richards In The Colours Of Mr J. A. Dewar
Gordon Richards, on whose services Fred Darling’s have first call, rode Mr. J.A. Dewar’s Sansonnet to victory on three occasions during 1935. “Moppy” Richards, as he is known, rode his first winner at Leicester, on Gay Lord, March 31st 1921, and since becoming champion jockey in 1925, he has held this distinction for nine seasons out of eleven. Possibly the greatest feat in racing was put up by Gordon when, after riding a winner in the last race at Nottingham overnight, he continued with eleven consecutive wins at Chepstow, October 4-5th, 1933, setting up a world’s record. During that season he rode 259 winners, beating Fred Archer’s 1885 record of 246.
